The Nuthouse encapsulates a historic Ohio feeling, from the exposed brick walls to the reclaimed wood floors and steel details. The city is reflected in the design as much as it is in the name. Nuts, along with beer, are quintessential elements of the classic idea of bar food. Their earthy flavors and raw textures bring a sense of comfort to a place filled with strangers. At The Nuthouse, the entire menu revolves around this comfort food. The name also carries out the tradition of the Buckeyes down the street, a bunch of nuts themselves. And with this tradition comes a sense of belonging that you can gather from the intimate back lounge seating to the tightly packed bar. And what better food to have while cheering on the Buckeyes than a variety of nuts of your own?
In the back, guests are able to help themselves to a gourmet nut bar, the focus of the menu.
The front of the space is the more high energy zone of the restaurant. This is where the bar and high top table seating is located as well as where the televisions are.
The Nuthouse utilizes three main materials in the design of the space: existing exposed brick, steel L-beams and planks, and reclaimed local barn wood.
The back lounge is the area that customers can go to be in a more comfortable and intimate setting to enjoy not only their food and drink but their conversations as well, contrasting from the lively front area of the space.
"Brewtus" is an example of the type of beer that would be served at The Nuthouse. I designed this label to reflect the design of The Nuthouse and be the signature beer of the bar.
